    《化学工艺大全》是化学工艺丛书中影响较大的百科全书，由美国约翰·威利父子出版公司出版。以第 1版的两位主编R.E.科克和D.F.奥思默命名。后者现仍继续参加本书主编工作。第1版于1947～1956年间出版，共15卷。1957、1960年又出版了第1和第2卷补编，及时更新了第1版中的陈旧内容。第 1版主要介绍了第二次世界大战与战后时期美国的化工技术。第2版于1963～1972年间出版，共22卷。1971年出版了全书索引，翌年出版了第2版补编。第2版采用了各国文献，反映世界化学工业的知识与技术水平。第3版于1978年开始出版，至1984年完成，共24卷，并从1979年起，每年出版4卷索引。1984年又出版了第3版1～24卷索引和补编各1卷。第3版的重点放在能量、健康、安全、公害及新材料方面，采用了SI单位，化合物用《化学文摘》登录号标出，全书按英文字母顺序编排条目。
　　在化学化工领域中，Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology无疑是一部具有重要参考价值的大型参考工具书。它主要介绍各种重要化工产品的性质、制法、近期的经济信息、分析与规格、毒性与安全以及用途等有关内容，同时还对化学化工的基本原理，化工单元操作和流程等问题进行了探讨。
　　本数据库是由纸印版转化而成相应的DVD型式出版，逐年增加册数资料。该光盘数据库是第5版完整资料数据库。与前几版相比，在对原有章节内容进行更新的基础上扩充了分析化学、生物工艺学、材料科学、计算机技术、能源及其转化技术等90年代出现的一些新兴技术的内容和一些有关环境方面的章节，例如：污染控制、毒物学以及循环再生技术等。同时第4版与前版本的明显区别还在于增加了由公认的化工各个领域专家学者所著的1200多篇论述各自领域技术、设备及方法的文章，因此从专业性和权威性的角度来看，在内容方面，该数据库在化学化工领域占有无可替代的重要地位。
